Ms. Elaine M. Reuschlein
The John P. Reuschlein Scholarship was established in memory of my late husband, an educator who retired after 45 years of teaching. John was a dedicated educator who attended Frostburg State University and spent his entire career teaching in Allegany County schools and mentoring future educators. John believed that education was the key to improving the life of a child and the future of the community. His compassion and caring for his students and their families was a just a continuation of that belief. Acknowledging the value and importance of each child and family was a priority and evident in the way past students and parents interacted with him.
John was a strong advocate for all his fellow teachers and a member and officer of the Allegany County Education Association and the Maryland State Education Association. He worked to encourage and mentor future educators and support the institutions that train and equip them to teach.
This scholarship is a way to continue the life work of John and all the educators he represented over the years. To encourage and support future educators is a way to honor not only John’s life, but the lives of all the students that were the focus of his dedication.
