FSU Alums Establish New Scholarship in Memory of Their Daughter
Garrett County residents who are Frostburg State University students majoring in special education and elementary education who plan to teach in Maryland can soon apply for a new scholarship to help fund their studies, thanks to the generosity of two FSU alumni. Don and Anne Forrester, residents of Mountain Lake Park, Md., who graduated from FSU in 1967, recently established the Shannon Anne Forrester Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of their beloved daughter, Shannon.
“As elementary education graduates of Frostburg, we wanted to establish a scholarship to support teacher education programs at Frostburg,” Don and Anne Forrester said. “Having spent our entire careers in education, we understand the importance of continuing to prepare highly qualified educators for the Maryland public school systems.”
Shannon was a special-needs student who attended school in Prince George’s County. “She received an excellent education in the schools she attended,” Don and Anne said. “With this scholarship, each elementary or special education graduate who benefits from the scholarship’s support will help honor Shannon’s memory.”
