Howard and Audrey Naylor Scholarship

Applicants must be enrolled full-time or part-time at FSU pursuing teacher certification in special education. (The student may be an undergraduate or graduate student depending on the Department of Educational Professions curriculum structure for teacher education for students with special needs at the time of the award.) Applicants will be students who have been accepted into the appropriate program established by the Department for teacher preparation in a special needs classroom setting and plan to complete all required certifications in this area of specialization. Applicant(s) must provide a personalized summary of their educational plan to: a) complete an intensive clinical component (field experience) within the program; b) conduct practical research related to facilitating students with special needs placed in traditional classrooms; and c) focus on developing effective skills, strategies, and dispositions in preparation to be an exemplary educator of students with intellectual disabilities (Down Syndrome) and autism spectrum disorder. The applicant’s summary should include personal evidence of passion for and commitment to teaching children with special needs. Preference will be given to applicants who aspire to teach, or currently teach, in the Appalachian region. The award is renewable through graduation if the recipient continues to meet the requirements specified above and if funding is available.
