Theta Delta Pi Sorority

Theta Delta Pi Sorority

Theta Delta Pi was founded in 1964 by Paula Dixon Martinez, the first president, and 28 charter members. From its early beginnings, Theta represented top students who were dedicated to making a difference on campus. The bond of sisterhood was developed through service to others, campus competitions (Greek Song Fest, Homecoming floats, powder puff football), and social gatherings. One of Theta’s distinctions was its philosophy on pledging new members which was based on encouragement and not harassment. Pledging was viewed as an opportunity to develop sisterhood through a positive and mutual commitment. This had an immediate effect on how pledging was approached by other fraternal organizations at Frostburg. Sisters of Theta Delta Pi always held service, scholarship and sisterhood upper most in their minds and hearts. They were always strong supporters of the organizations on campus with many sisters serving in leadership roles in Student Government, Resident Hall Councils, Greek Council and many other organizations and activities on campus. When Frostburg required all sororities to go national, Theta refused to give up their local status. In the fall of 1987, Theta Delta Pi pledged its last pledge class.
Over the twenty three years of Theta’s existence, 370 women became sisters. The bonds of sisterhood remain strong as their unity was exhibited at their 50th reunion, September 24-27, 2015, in Bethany Beach, DE, where 125 sisters gathered to celebrate. It was at this 50th reunion the Theta Delta Pi Legacy Scholarship was conceived, a scholarship that will reward outstanding students who exhibit Theta values such as service, leadership and scholarship. The sisters are excited that the philosophy of Theta will be carried on through many generations to come.
