Jean K. Myers
I established an endowed scholarship in memory of my aunt, Mabel E. Myers ’13. She was among the first graduates of Frostburg Teachers College. She had a passion for teaching young children the fun and beauty of music. Her profession for many years was as a traveling music teacher in Allegany County, visiting all the grade schools. There was much pleasure in overhearing students say, “Oh goody, Miss Myers is here for music today!” She played the organ for the First Methodist church in Frostburg for over 77 years, participated in many activities in the town for nearly her whole life. Even in her 90’s she was always delighted to sit down at a piano and whip out many of the old and familiar tunes for folks. Her memory will linger for many coming years as a fine example of the teaching profession.
