Dr. Jonathan & Ms. Laurie Gibralter

Dr. Jonathan Gibralter was the 14th President of Frostburg State University serving from 2006-2015. During his tenure, Dr. Gibralter and his wife Laurie created the Dr. Jonathan C. and Ms. Laurie Gibralter Presidential Merit Scholarship because they had opportunities each and every day to see the hard work and dedication of FSU students committed to their education and their futures.

Dr. Gibralter created the J. Frederick Gibralter Regional and Cultural Arts Endowment to honor the memory of his father and hopes that it will help to provide creative & performing arts opportunities for students. J. Frederick Gibralter, who passed away in 1968, was a business person who owned and operated his own clothing design and manufacturing company in NYC.

Dr. Gibralter was passionate about alcohol education and wanting students to lead healthy lifestyles. The Jonathan Gibralter Presidential Leadership Fund for Alcohol Awareness and Education provides on-going resources for programs and research to benefit students.

Dr. Gibralter’s leadership at FSU during his nine-year tenure was focused upon improving the overall quality of life on campus and improving residential, athletic and academic facilities. There were several new constructions completed during his nine years as president: the Catherine R. Gira Center for Communications and Information Technology, the Bobcat Stadium Press Box, and the University Police Building. There were also many renovations including the Lane University Center, athletic facilities, locker rooms, and residence halls.
