I established the endowed scholarship at F.S.U. to express my appreciation for the educational opportunities the college provided me to have a rewarding career in public education. It is intended for students who have the ability and desire to become dedicated teachers but find the funding for such difficult.
When I graduated from high school (Valley High School – Lonaconing, Maryland), my mother told me I was going to Frostburg State Teachers College to become a teacher – mothers are always right!! It was a decision for which I am very grateful. I could not have attended a post-high school, four year college anywhere else because of financial considerations. The foundation I obtained at Frostburg led to a 33-year career as a teacher and administrator at the school and county levels in Frederick County, Maryland.
For others who wish to become teachers and are graduates of Allegany or Garrett County high schools, I hope this scholarship will help them obtain their goals. It is a way for me to give back to my college, my profession, and my home area.
